To say that South Africa is a virtual paradise is a true statement.


We intend to take full advantage of what South Africa has to offer. We have an amazing itinerary that will offer historical & cultural experiences, safari adventure and lots of natural beauty to explore. Check it out below.


ITINERARY - GATE 1 Travel 's 12 Day Classic South Africa with Robben Island


DAY 1, Tuesday, 6/17 - Depart for South Africa


DAY 2, Wednesday, 6/18 - Arrive in Cape Town

Arrive in Cape Town. As you transfer to your hotel, you'll see the towering symbol of the city, Table Mountain. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore this seaside city.


DAY 3, Thursday, 6/19 - Cape Town City Tour B,D

After breakfast and an orientation meeting with your Tour Manager, depart on a half day Cape Town city and Table Mountain tour. Drive past famous landmarks such as the Castle of Good Hope, City Hall, Grand Parade and St. George's Cathedral. The route then leads to Kloof Nek and Table Mountain. Ascend to the top of Table Mountain (weather permitting) by means of a cable car. Descend and proceed to Cape Town's V & A Waterfront for some leisure time. In the afternoon, take a ferry (weather permitting) across the Bay to visit Robben Island, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Tour historic Robben Island's prison before returning to Cape Town. Conclude the day with dinner.


DAY 4, Friday, 6/20 - Cape Peninsula Tour B,L

Depart on a full day Cape Peninsula Tour with lunch along the way. After a stop at the fishing village of Hout Bay, continue to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. Then, following the coastline along False Bay, return to Cape Town after lunch. On the way, visit the penguin colonies at Boulders Beach and the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens.

Tonight, attend the optional Traditional African Dinner Experience for an evening of live performances and African gastronomy before returning to the hotel.


DAY 5, Saturday, 6/21 - Leisure Day on Your Own B

Spend the day at leisure in Cape Town. Perhaps join the optional South African Wine Tour, which takes you along the country's principal wine route to the towns of Paarl, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch with tastings along the way. Alternatively, thrill seekers will not want to miss the optional excursion to "Shark Alley" to experience shark cage diving.

Tonight, experience local culture at the optional Home Hosted Dinner.


DAY 6, Sunday, 6/22 - Flight to Durban, Game Viewing Cruise on the St. Lucia Estuary B,D

This morning after breakfast transfer to the airport for your flight to Durban. Arrival in the early afternoon and drive to St. Lucia. Later, embark on a game viewing cruise that takes you on the St. Lucia Estuary, home to Nile crocodiles, hippopotami, sea turtles, and even sharks.

Dinner at the hotel.


DAY 7, Monday, 6/23 - Game Drive in Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve, Travel to eSwatini B

After an early breakfast, travel to the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve, situated in northern KwaZulu Natal, which is famous for its conservation of black and white rhinos. Home to Africa's "Big Five." You may have a chance to see elephant, Cape buffalo, lion, leopard, and rhino during your morning game drive through the reserve. Continue to the border of the Kingdom of eSwatini,* an independent kingdom within the borders of South Africa. Stop at a handicraft market this afternoon before arriving at your hotel in the early evening.

*Note: eSwatini is an independent country from South Africa and therefore has different entry requirements. Non-US passport holders may need a visa for eSwatini. Check with the travel agent for requirements.


DAY 8, Tuesday, 6/24 - Eswatini Sightseeing and Matsamo Village Visit B,L,D

After breakfast visit the Ngwenya Glass factory, where visitors can watch glass blowers create a range of African animals and tableware made from recycled glass. Transfer to the South African border and visit Matsamo Cultural Village where you can learn more about the Swati traditions and customs. Enjoy traditional Swati cuisine along with dance and song performances.

Dinner at the hotel.


DAY 9, Wednesday, 6/25 - Kruger National Park Game Drive B,L,D

Upon departure from the hotel, a pre-packed breakfast will be provided for you. Then, on to Kruger National Park for a full day, open-vehicle game drive. You may have a chance to see lion, elephant, giraffe, or zebra in their natural habitat. After stopping at a rest camp for lunch, continue your game drive. End the day with dinner at the hotel.


DAY 10, Thursday, 6/26 - Travel to Johannesburg B

Depart after breakfast on a long drive today. Begin with a another game drive through Kruger National Park on your way to Johannesburg. Arrive late afternoon, and check into your hotel.


DAY 11, Friday, 6/27 - Soweto Tour B,D

Depart on a half day tour of Soweto. Drive by the former residence of Bishop Desmond Tutu and visit Nelson Mandela's former home. Continue to the Apartheid Museum, where you will journey through the racial segregation experienced by millions of South Africans. Cap off the day with dinner tonight and bid farewell to your Tour Manager.


DAY 12, Saturday, 6/28 - Depart South Africa from Johannesburg Airport B

Transfer to the Johannesburg airport for your departure flight or extend your stay on your own.


Tour Pricing

$2,449 per person (based on double occupancy); after 12/ 12/24 the price goes to $2,949 pp

$2,899 single occupancy before 12/12/24; triple occupancy is not available on this trip

$50 pp non-refundable reservation fee is due by March 30, 2024. We have limited capacity in this group and will only hold space for 45 days for those who pay their reservation fee.

$300 pp non-refundable deposit required by May 17, 2024 to secure your space once the group is confirmed.

Final payment is due no later than 90 days prior to departure or March 19, 2025.


NOTE: Land only price; including hotel accommodation, sight-seeing tours, game park entrance fees, activities, meals as indicated (B,L,D), and intra-country flight from Cape Town to Durban.

NOTE: Price does not include international airfare nor arrival/departure transfers but we can book them for you.


NOTE: South Africa group sizes are small and we cannot hold space for guests without a deposit. Availability is on a first come first serve basis.


NOTE: Solo travelers booking double occupancy are responsible for finding their own roommate. Solo travelers without a roommate by the deposit deadline will be charged the single rate.
